Presence, here and now, embodiment, movement… How can we do Gestalt therapy if we are limited in these aspects which are fundamental to our way of understanding therapy? How can we do therapy over the internet without the live, direct presence of the other person in our consulting room?
As Gestalt therapists, we are asking these questions at this time in which for many of us, the only way to keep seeing our clients is online. We are facing the difficulty of having to rethink our practice and adapt it to the new format.
We might have all kinds of doubts: legal, ethical, technical, audiovisual, and also about therapeutic methodology. Many of us are wondering how to take all the potential of our therapeutic method to this new medium which seems so far from the lived experiential Gestalt we know. What therapeutic resources do I have in this context that can support me in my practice and support my clients?
I've offered this seminar in Spanish and now I'm offering it in English for Gestalt psychotherapy professionals who are interested in reflecting and dealing with these questions. The content of the seminar comes from my experience and my reflections on recent years in therapy, training and online supervision. My intention is to share some technical keys for working online, especially around returning to our fundamental theory to find a solid base to orient ourselves from in this new frame of reference and form of communication in a creative way that is coherent with our Gestalt principles.
