Dates: January 31st, 1 and February 1st and 2nd, 2020.
This workshop presents Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy, an approach to rediscovering the lost art of embodied awareness, through attending to how we kinesthetically resonate with one another.
Movement is the root of all contacting and provides the foundation for psychological functioning. It is essentially through movement that we feel ourselves and each other. Movement is our first language. However, our capacity to make sense of felt qualities and dynamics is often diminished as we are more practicing our thinking in words. The less we feel ourselves the less we feel our on-going kinesthetic resonance with the world around us. This can contribute to a sense of alienation, anxiety, stress and depression. Re-learning how to feel ourselves with an other can support us to sense ourselves again as an integral part of the world.
In this workshop we will explore this non-verbal realm of contacting, and practice our ability to listen through movement. We will break down contacting into its most basic elements and attend to our immediate sensed, and aesthetic experience of our lived situation. Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy is an approach to gestalt therapy that highlights the relational and phenomenological values inherent in gestalt, and offers a system which integrates movement into all aspects of gestalt theory and practice.
Conducted in English and Spanish.
Helena Kallner MA, MSc, UKCP reg. Psychotherapist, practices Gestalt psychotherapy in Stockholm. Helena is a senior teacher and supervisor of Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy™, presenting workshops internationally. She is presently a doctoral student at Metanoia Institute/ Middlesex University, researching psychotherapists’ use of movement and Kinesthetic Resonance in psychotherapy.
You don’t need to have a background in gestalt therapy to attend this workshop. It is open for psychotherapists, coaches, consultants and other professionals who are interested in learning about how to attend to non-verbal aspects in their work.
